MIN - Brief facts
• Midt i Norden (MIN) is a national learning network encompassing 30 counties - from Kirkenes County in the north to Farsund County in the south. Our aim is to offer education where people live. Competence development should be incorporated naturally into everyday life - also in provincial Norway.

Inspirational learning environment!
• In MIN-counties, study centers provide users with a pleasant and stimulating work environment. Here there is room for both skilled teamwork and personal conversations. In addition, the centers are equipped with study rooms, computers, internet and rooms for group activities. Students often borrow keys in order to use the centers - around the clock. Virtual classrooms, where seminars, lectures and tutoring occurs in real-time, are also found at the study centers.

Well-founded study structures - the key to success
• When following, for example, a 30-credit course, a Masters degree or an entire occupational education from the local study center - this demands that the study models themselves are well-founded and have a good balance between virtual lectures in real-time, net-based learning modules, independent study, group work and guidance. In practice, this means that established curricula must be revised so that students do not have to travel far or take leave of their families and jobs. These are development processes which to a great extent include all the education partners and pedagogic/skilled faculty.

Diversity of curriculum allows needs to be satisfied
• In small counties, a study curriculum of high learning quality is difficult to establish since there are often too few students. When counties consolidate in networks such as MIN, however, demand for fewer students per location can be met and much more achieved. More individuals are able to study and a broader curriculum may be offered. Even though our counties are small - the need for different types of education is just as complex and diverse as in the city. Achieving a real breadth in the curriculum is of the utmost importance for these local communities in being able to meet challenges of the modern world.

A development alliance for provincial Norway
• Owned and operated by the cooperating counties, MIN is a non-commercial company (network) that works for promoting the level of competence - thereby strengthening vitality and competitiveness - in our counties.
• MIN closely cooperates with establishments of higher education and other providers of education in order to develop study models and curricula that allow people to secure an education where they live.
• This greater alliance - combined with the similar needs of the majority of the counties - results in our being able to develop effective curricula of often higher quality. A joint commitment to curricula for raising the level of expertise in schools, and social studies education for refugees in their native languages, are two such examples. We also work together to strengthen financing of the local study centers.

• MIN was in 2004 a national "Lighthouse" for The Research Council of Norway / HØYKOM.
